Due to sin and because of the fall of mankind back in the Garden of Eden, the vast majority of suffering and despair in this world is rooted in humans wronging each other. Our broken natural world is, in the words of Romans 8, subjected to decay under the weight of sin. We live in a world where natural disasters strike unexpectedly, tragic cancer diagnoses arise, sin is carried out against you by the person you trusted the most, and death occurs. We have to remember that our Heavenly Father is not okay with these things. It breaks his heart because he loves and cares about each and every one of his children that he has created and intimately knows.
God, who is in the pit with Joseph in Genesis 39, stepped into his own creation when our heavenly Father sent his son Jesus into this world and into the very heart of our suffering to die on the cross. Jesus took upon himself the penalty of our sin in our rebellion and our brokenness. But three days later, he walked out of his own grave, triumphant and victorious, and through him we will be able to as well, whether we pass away or we live to see Jesus’s second coming. There is coming a day where there will be no more sickness, no more disease, no more death, no more evil, and no more suffering. We will be with our creator in paradise forever.
