Colossians 1:9-12 states, “For this reason, since the day we heard about you, we have not stopped praying for you. We continually ask God to fill you with the knowledge of his will through all the wisdom and understanding that the Spirit gives, so that you may live a life worthy of the Lord and please him in every way: bearing fruit in every good work, growing in the knowledge of God, being strengthened with all power according to his glorious might so that you may have great endurance and patience, and giving joyful thanks to the Father, who has qualified you to share in the inheritance of his holy people in the kingdom of light.”
In these verses, Paul says leans in and starts telling the reader about the real Jesus, and begins discounting all the false and fake information that many people had heard. Paul tells them that Jesus has rescued us from the dominion of darkness, and he's brought us into the kingdom of the Son that God loves. We have redemption and the forgiveness of sins. Paul wants to make sure you know the real life that the real Jesus offers.
He goes on in verse 15 and says, “The Son is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation.” Scripture states that Jesus is literally all the fullness of the deity. God is in Jesus. Meaning if you want to know how God feels about sin, if you want to know how he feels about sinners, if you want to know how he feels about the poor, or how he how he feels about building community – all you have to do is look at Jesus. Jesus is the image of the invisible. He's the first born of all creation for in him all things were created. Things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rules or authorities, all things have been created through him and for him. He holds it all.
