Honor Someone who Sacrificed for You

My husband and I have been blessed with two amazing sets of parents who regularly go above and beyond for us and our first child who is 8 months old. So Jude, our son, gave them some Valentine’s treats and brought roses for our amazing kids staff who watch Jude every Sunday and most Wednesdays so I can go to Women’s Bible study! He’s a generous little man!

As I walked into Kroger tonight to pick a bottle of creamer I immediately saw all the valentine's bouquets in front of me. I immediately thought of the challenge I committed to today. My mom has done so much to get me through life and since my dad's passing she has moved in with me and continues to bless my life. I know her love of daisies and saw a little Mason jar with these beautiful little flowers. When I handed it to her I whispered in her ear about the challenge and told her this was only a small token that I could never repay her for all her sacrifices but that I loved her so much now and for always.

My Mom, who is 86 years old is in an assisted living home. She has dementia and is very often incoherent. It is difficult some times to go visit her but I make it a point to go spend time with her on Sunday and help her eat her lunch. I often wonder if it even matters to her that I do this. I got the answer recently from my sister. She called to tell me after a recent visit that Mom told her that your brother comes to see me every Sunday.

30 years ago, as a young married couple, my wife and I we were going on vacation, I must have had car issues going on that week. Some how my boss caught wind of the situation and offered their van. Their new van. I learned a lot from that act of kindness. They were generous, trusted us with something of great value, and stepped into the gap of our situation. My story is 30 years old. My friends (Jim & Jenny) have made a huge impact on my life, my family, my career and my faith in Christ. Thank you again!

Our God is so creative with his unorthodox and unusual methods to get his resources and his people to different people and causes at just the right time. We just need to be obedient to his leading. God will put you in unexpected places with a variety of people that need you to make some sacrifices for them in order to show them the love in the way that Jesus modeled. We have to be willing to listen for God's instructions and put his will and plan first, above our own schedule or priorities. Will you make the decision to empty the jar? Are you willing to give your time, your talent, your treasure, and your testimony to advance the Kingdom of God? Lord, would you help us to let go of our own desires so that you can do your work through us?
