It can be really difficult to admit when you need help. Our pride wants to rule our decisions—it’s where we are most comfortable—but when pride is in the driver’s seat, the journey can get dark and lonely. Your situation will only get worse as you struggle to handle things in your own strength.
Too much of the world is wearing the mask of “I’m fine!” in the attempt to hide their weaknesses. Even in the church, we can to be the worst at putting on a happy face in order to cover our suffering. We’ve bought into the lie that we need to have it together in order to be a “good” Christian, but we should be examples to the rest of the world of what it looks like to lay down our pride and admit when we need help. We can do this because we have a savior who empathizes with our weaknesses and wants to give us the help that we need.
It is only in our weakness that we can receive the gift of Christ. It’s only when we admit that we need help that we can be in a position to receive it. God wants to help us. He has made us to be helped by him, and he made us to help one another. After all, the first time that God said something was “not good” as he created the world was when Adam was alone. He realized Adam needed a helper suitable for him (Genesis 2:18). Help was always in God’s design. It’s time that we stop fighting God’s design and admit that we need help.
Reflection/Discussion Question: What do you need help with in your life right now?
